Long-time advocate joins the Komen Austin Affiliate staff

July 15, 2011

The Austin Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® has recently named Tania Leskovar-Owens as the Development Director.

Owens most recently served as the Assistant Director of Development for the College of Communication at the University of Texas at Austin where she raised major gifts for the College’s capital campaign, academic initiatives and student scholarship support.  In addition to her work on the College’s Innovation Fund campaign to support innovative curriculum and programs for Belo Center for New Media (opening in 2012), she worked closely on several key fundraising initiatives for the Department of Advertising & Public Relations.  Prior to that, Owens managed the pro-bono efforts and sponsorship requests for GSD&M as the Community Relations Manager.  She oversaw multiple projects including American Stroke Association, Austin Museum of Art, H.A.N.D and St. Jude.

We are very excited to welcome Tania to the Komen Austin Affiliate," said Christy Casey-Moore, Executive Director.  "As a long-time advocate and recent board member, she makes a perfect fit for the Affiliate. We look forward to what lies ahead and to being able to make a bigger IMPACT in our community."

Owens has been involved with the Komen Austin Affiliate since 2004 as a volunteer for the Komen Austin Race for the Cure® where she most recently served as the Race Co-Chair.   In April, she was awarded the Promise of One Award for her multiple years of service and countless hours she has dedicated to the Race.

"I am very excited about what is ahead!  Just a few weeks ago we awarded $1.139 million dollars to eleven local non-profit health care organizations – the most we have ever granted out, but our work is not done.  My personal goal is to surpass that number next year and award more dollars to more organizations,” said Owens.

Owens holds a Bachelor of Science degree in advertising from the University of Texas at Austin.  She is a provisional member of the Junior League of Austin and a part of the Dell Children's Trust.
