IDEALHEEL™ AND FIAT OF AUSTIN TO PRESENT 3RD ANNUAL STILETTO STAMPEDE FOR THE CURE™

100-yard High Heel Dash to Benefit the Austin Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®

July 27, 2011

Stiletto Stampede for the CureIdealHeel and FIAT of Austin present the 3rd Annual Austin Stiletto Stampede for the Cure™ on October 22, 2011 at the Hill Country Galleria. Proceeds from the event benefit the Austin Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure and education and rehab programs developed by the Stiletto Stampede organization.

The Stiletto Stampede for the Cure is a high heel dash with a mission to encourage young women and men to understand the risks of breast cancer and empower them to prevent the disease by utilizing overall breast self-awareness through early detection and screening methods.

The 100-yard dash will be held Saturday, October 22, 2011 at the Hill Country Galleria starting at 10 am, and will consist of four race heats:

  • The Survivor Stampede, honoring all cancer survivors
  • The Stiletto Stampede, the race heat
  • The Stroller Stampede, Moms and Dads in heels
  • The Pooch Scooch, best in show style strut for dogs and their owners

Following the race, from Noon-2pm, Dillard’s will be hosting a number of events including, but not limited to a fall fashion show, complimentary makeovers and breast cancer education consults. Dillard’s will also be the starting point for the M.A.S.H., the Mall Adventure Scavenger Hunt, a new event created by the Stiletto Stampede organization to include those not interested in running in heels to participate in the cause and learn more about breast cancer through another adventurous experience.

“Our goal with the Stampede and the MASH is to create a unique and fun event that encourages young people to be advocates for their health,” said Jenny Sparks, operations director of the Stiletto Stampede organization.  “Ultimately, we want to empower our participants to be proactive, not reactive to breast cancer and raise awareness and educate in a unique fashion – a way that has never been done before.”

The popularity of this event has grown significantly since its inception in 2009. The Stiletto Stampede organization will be traveling to Houston in November this year as well as to Dallas and other US cities in the spring and summer of 2012.

“We had no idea how popular this event would be when we launched it in Austin in 2009.  It was shortly after that first event when we started receiving phone calls from interested parties in Texas and other parts of the country,” said Michelle Patterson, founder of Stiletto Stampede.

The entrance fee for the Austin Stiletto Stampede is $40 and includes a race shirt, a pair of IdealHeels and goody bag full of fun items and educational information. The MASH entrance Fee is $35 per person (teams of two) and includes a goody bag full of fun items and educational information as well. Race Registration will open in August and close October 20, 2011.  Proceeds from the Austin Stampede will go to the Komen Austin Affiliate and to the Stiletto Stampede organization.

"We are honored to partner with Michelle Patterson and Stiletto Stampede for the third year in a row," said Christy Casey-Moore, executive director of the Komen Austin Affiliate. "This event is an excellent example of a successful community partnership and what passionate advocates can do to bring awareness and education to women and men that have been affected by breast cancer."
