Current Grant Recipients
The Komen Austin Affiliate will provide over $1 million in local community grants for our five county service area this year. In addition, more than $400 thousand will be directed to the national Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Award and Research Grant Program. Our 2012 Komen Austin grantees are:
- Alliance for African American Health in Central Texas- Education to Action - Increasing Breast Cancer Screening among African American Women will increase the number of African American women who get screened annually for breast cancer by providing targeted outreach and breast health education in the 78723 zip code area; funding and access for screening mammograms; navigation and transportation services for screenings and follow-up appointments. $48,977.00
- Breast Cancer Resource Centers of Texas (BCRC) - Medically Underserved Outreach and Patient Navigation provides patient navigation services and support groups for women receiving treatment at University Medical Center Brackenridge Hospital Shivers’ Breast Clinic for women in Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, Travis, Williamson counties. $45,655.84
- CommuniCare Health Centers - Hays County Breast Health Services provides breast health education, clinical breast exams, screening mammography, diagnostic services, and patient navigation for women and men in Hays County. $71,134.36
- Community Action Inc. of Central Texas - Breast Cancer Navigation Program provides comprehensive breast cancer education, screening and diagnostic services, patient navigation, case management, and transportation for women in Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, Williamson counties. $196,243.42
- H.A.N.D. (Helping the Aging, Needy and Disabled) - Help at Home provides in-home assistance including housekeeping, cooking, and personal care for women after surgery and while undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatment for breast cancer in Bastrop, Hays, Travis, Williamson counties. $28,900
- National Center for Farmworker Health - Cultivando la Salud Breast Cancer Education Program provides a comprehensive breast cancer education and screening program for Hispanic women using a culturally appropriate educational program led by lay health promoters for women in Hays County. $49,925.50
- Planned Parenthood of the Texas Capital Region - Continuum of Breast Care- Ensuring Access provides breast cancer risk assessments, breast exams, follow-up exams, education, and referrals for free mammography and diagnostic procedures for women in Travis, Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, Williamson counties. $44,497.59
- Samaritan Health Ministries - Breast Cancer Early Detection Services provides access to breast health education, clinical breast exams, screening and diagnostic services, and patient navigation for low-income women of all ages in Travis and Williamson counties. $32,009.00
- The University of Texas at Austin–School of Nursing - Family Wellness Center’s Women’s Wellness Program provides no-cost breast cancer screening and follow-up care, including referral and access to diagnostic services, case management and patient navigation support for low-income women in Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, Travis, and Williamson counties. $108,509.77
- WINGS (Women Involved in Nurturing, Giving, Sharing, Inc.) – True Access in Rural Areas (TARA) provides comprehensive, no-cost breast cancer treatment, on-going follow-up care for prior breast cancer patients, COBRA payments, and patient navigation services for women in Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, Travis, Williamson counties. $231,840.00
