Fundraising FAQs

What is the difference between the registration fee and donations? Why should I fundraise?
When you register for the Susan G. Komen Austin Race for the Cure® your registration fee mainly covers the Austin Affiliate’s operating cost of putting on the Race. Donations are essential for making an impact by providing care for the medically underserved in Central Texas and national research to find a cure.

Thanks to last year's fundraising efforts, the Komen Austin Affiliate will provide its largest single community investment of $1.139 million in local community grants for our five county service area this year. In addition, more than $450 thousand will be directed to the national Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Award and Research Grant Program.

Does the Komen Race for the Cure® require fundraising?
No, but consider this. When you register for the Susan G. Komen Austin Race for the Cure® your registration fee mainly covers the cost of putting on the Race. If everyone raises $125.00 more than they did last year we will exceed our fundraising goal of $1.5 million.

Does the money raised stay right here in our community?
Yes, 75 percent net funds raised LOCALLY stays LOCALLY. The Komen Austin Affiliate provides funding to LOCAL non-profit healthcare organizations for breast health services for the underserved men and women in Travis, Bastrop, Hays, Williamson and Caldwell Counties. The remaining 25 percent funds the national Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Grants Program, which funds groundbreaking breast cancer research.

Where do I send cash or checks?
Checks can be mailed to our office. Cash or checks can be dropped off at the registration tent on Race day, or turned in at the office. Regardless, a Race Donation Form must be included with any cash or check donations so we know which participant or team the donation is for.

Mailed in Race Donation Forms must be received by November 30, 2011 for donations to be credited toward your fundraising goal. Any forms received after that date will be counted as general Race donations.
