We recognize that there were traffic issues and have put this on our list for 2010. We were pleasantly surprised by the number of Race Day registrants, but it did mean that we ran out of shirts. Race BasicsSunday, November 1, 2009 - 7:30AM This event will occur RAIN or SHINE! The Race is a 5K or 3.1 miles. We also have a 1 Mile Komen Family Walk available. Cancellation will occur only due to extreme circumstances. If cancelled, there will be no refunds, and your payment will be used as a donation to the Komen Austin Race for the Cure.
WHAT'S NEW FOR THE 2009 RACEThe Race will be held on The Domain property, at Burnet & Braker in North Austin. There will be two packet pickup locations, one in North Austin, one in South Austin. Refunds will not be offered for registration and/or fees (chip timing and shipping). There will be one course, but there will be separate START TIMES for timed runners, untimed runners, and walkers. Timed runners start at 7:30am. Hotel discounts!
RACE UPDATESCourse certification number is TX09013JF. (21 Aug) Survivors will not receive a pink bib this year. (09 Oct) For Race Day registration OR packet pickup, all participants (yes, even you timed runners) will go to the Registration Tent. (22 Oct) Turn in donations on Race Day at the Registration, Teams, Austin Affiliate, Merchandise, and Survivor tents. Packet Pickup (shirts & bibs)Timed Runners only, please read: if you register on or after Saturday, 24 October you need to pick up your packet the NEXT day, not the same day of your registration. Location & Times: There will be a South Austin and a North Austin location this year. Each location has different dates, see below.
Contents PLEASE NOTE THAT "PACKET PICKUP" REFERS TO SHIRTS AND BIBS ONLY. THE ONLY RACE ITEMS AVAILABLE AT ACADEMY STORES PRIOR TO 24 OCTOBER ARE POSTERS AND FLYERS, AVAILABLE IN A PINK BOX AT THE CUSTOMER SERVICE DESK. Packets include a T-shirt, Race number,and safety pins. T-shirts are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Size preference is not guaranteed. Pick up your packet early to get your size! Our t-shirts are ordered two months before registration begins from Komen National's distributor, and we are not able to special order based on registrations.
Race Day ParkingYou will be directed to parking areas (general, Survivor, handicap) upon your arrival to the Race site. We will have parking attendants at all major intersections close to the Race course and Domain property directing you where to go. There is no charge for parking on the Domain property. Survivors will receive their parking pass when they receive their t-shirt packet. View parking map. Getting dropped off? The drop off area is the same location as VIP parking. SponsorshipThe 2009 Komen Austin Race for the Cure® Sponsorship Packet is now available. Sponsoring the Race is a great way to receive high community visibility pre-Race and on Race Day.
Kids, Skates, and PetsFor the safety of all participants, inline skates, and pets are discouraged from participating in this event. Thank you for your cooperation. We kindly request strollers and baby joggers join us for the 1-Mile Komen Family Walk or stay to the back of the 5K Walkers. Children may not be on the course (walking, in a stroller, being held, etc) unless they are registered and a waiver has been signed by a parent or guardian.
SurvivorsPlease join us on Race Day at the Survivor Tent for a delicious breakfast buffet, fun giveaways, as well as other great activities and goodies. The Survivor Tent is open from 6:30 AM until the end of the Race. The Survivor Committee respectfully requests a limit of 2 guests per Survivor in order to accommodate as many Survivors as possible for a special Race Day breakfast in our tent. A Survivor group photo will be taken promptly at 7:20 AM. Stop by and say hello, we look forward to seeing you there! Survivor packets will include a race shirt, bib, safety pins, survivor shirt, and survivor parking pass. You will recieve your pink hat in your goody bag, which can be picked up during packet pickup or on Race Day. **Note that Survivor bibs will not be pink this year. 2010 SURVIVOR TEA PARTY Enjoy an English Tea Party in celebration of our survivors! Date, Time & Location to be announced but please sign up for the event by sending your name, TeamsGet your friends, family, or work colleagues together and put together a team of your own for the 2009 Race. In 2008 there were 1081 teams and 68% of participants were members of teams! It’s easy to do and makes Race Day a lot of fun. Timed RunnersPacket Pickup pre-Race The week of the Race, (THIS WEEK), you will need to pick up your packet the day AFTER you register online. Your packet WILL NOT be available the same day of your online registration. Race Day Registration & Packet Pickup Please go to the Registration tent to register or pickup your shirt/bib. Timing Chip Komen Austin Race for the Cure® chip timing is handled by RunFar Racing Services. We will be using the D-tag disposable timing chips again this year, and your Timed Bib will have a peel off strip that contains the chip. Start Time Timed runners receive blue bibs, and will have a separate start time. Only TIMED RUNNERS at this time, no untimed runners or walkers. Timed Categories & Results Results will be posted at http://www.mychiptime.com/searchevent.php?id=3870 following the Race. Winners will be announced from the stage following the Race, and be posted on the site (no certificates will be mailed this year):
